The Plumbed Whistling Duck, Dendrocygna eytoni, is normally a striking brown duck that loves wetlands, pastures and grasslands. This individual duck painted here has leucism which causes a partial loss of pigmentation (it is different physiologically to albinism) which has caused this duck to be majority white and cream coloured.
The PWD breeds around Australia, and its named after its upright feathers plumbing up from its sides. It is 42 - 60cm in size, and its call has a distinctive whistle. It ranges across eastern, northern and central Australia and is also found in New Guinea near tall grassland, the savanna and near bodies of water.
