The Chestnut Breasted Mannikin, Lonchura castaneothorax, is a local bird to Cairns, its habitat stretches both north along through to the Northern Territory and south towards the mid NSW coast. It's a small bird, only 10cm in length. They love long grasses and its seed, along with swamps and reeds. It is quite fond of barley seed and paspalum grass.
